The purpose of drilling and sampling in the mineral exploration is to acquire the subsurface information which is difficult to obtain by the geological survey. In order to secure reliability of the resource estimation, the authorized standards, such as JORC Code and CIM Standard, have been applied since the 1990s, which include the guidance for exploration procedures and reporting. On the other hand, the practice of drilling in Korea depends on the personal experience because of the lack of the adequate standards, and the systematic assay has not conducted which is essential for resource estimation. In this study, the drilling practice described in 3 technical reports to comply with JORC Code and that from interviews of Korean experts in drilling have been compared. Through this comparison, the necessity of establishing the standards for drilling has been discerned again to ensure reliability, and the direction of it has been suggested.
